The blade is forged in sanmai construction with a core of 26C3 steel, a very pure low-alloy high-carbon steel known for its fine grain and good edge stability. The outer layers are wrought iron reclaimed from an old wagon wheel.
The core steel is heat treated to approximately 63 HRC.
The geometry is slightly thicker than in my other knives, giving it more mass and stiffness — closer to a workhorse geometry — while still maintaining a thin edge behind the bevel for efficient cutting performance.
The blade has been acid etched to reveal the structure of the sanmai construction and the natural grain and inclusions of the wrought iron cladding.
The handle is made from Argentinian retama wood. Although visually simple, it is a very dense and hard wood, and relatively difficult to source.
